Why is do I have to wait before the person I call answers their phone before I can speak to them?
To protect users from malicious calling BT has built BT AvaTalk so that the person you ring has the opportunity to accept or decline the incoming call. Once you have selected to ring a number the owner of that number will be called first. On answering the call they will receive a voice message asking them to dial “1” if they would like to accept the call. Once they have accepted you will receive an incoming call connecting you to that person.
